Hi ....... Has anyone got any ideas regarding the best shoes for me as i am having great difficulty walking after ankle fusion opp, surgeon says i need to walk A.S. A.P as
have bone density loss due to the non weight baring for 6mths, i am trying so hard but my foot is so painful and the ankle swells to twice the size. I need some comfy shoes, i have looked at M.B.Ts and sketchers also rocker, i dont know which would be best after an opp?
any advice welcome. Anne-m xxx

Have you looked at Hotter shoes Anne-Marie? Padders too, they both do wide fitting comfortable shoes. If you google Hotter you should be able to find them. Also check out shoeshop.com, they have a wide range of comfortable shoes. Hope you can find something to make walking easier for you.

Thank you Girlies, All good advice, but i was thinking of something that would help with the stiffness and pushing off when walking, has any one worn the rocker shoes? or M.B.T trainers? My daughter said that a friend told her that they were hard to walk in, anyone know? there seems to be a lot of counterfit ones around, not suprised as they are around £100.
Thank you again, Take it easy, Anne-m xx

I've tried to google MBT trainers and nothing come up but are they the ones that they advertise to shape up your legs and bottom when you walk? You sort of rock on them when you walk? If they are I have been told to avoid these by my podiatrist. I've got problems with my feet at the moment have just had some inserts made and I was advised to by flyflots or sketchers. I turned up for my appointment with some flyflot toe post sandals on, had the granny sensible shoes for the inserts in a bag. The podiatrist told me that the sandals were useless because my bones in my feet had no support what so ever. The granny shoes were OK but was told that velcro straps or lace ups would of been better.
Can you not get an appointment with a podiatrist or ring the clinic up explain your situation and ask for one to ring you back to give you advice?

Hi Anne-m, sorry you have problems after the ankle fusion opp. I've a pair of MBT shoes, they're very good, bit on the heavy side but once you get used to wearing them they're ok. It takes a while to get used to them so only wear for a short time at first, legs might ache a bit. Tried the Flitflop toe posts, they're good too, although not great for walking far. Hope this helps, Kathleen.

Thank you Kathleen, I have an appointment with a podiatrist this afternoon, i am hoping he will give some me some advise on the best foot wear, its so difficult as my left foot is now one size bigger than the right, this may rectify once and if all the swelling disappears.

Just a quick note, i visited the podiatrist yesterday (SUCH A LOVLEY YOUNG MAN) .............. less of that, he suggested Sketchers shape ups, he said that the mbts a little heavy,as you said Kathleen, so if hubby gets home from work on time i am off to purchase a pair, apparently you have to wear them a little at first as they take some getting used to.

Doing well with the sketchers, although i find myself walking on the side off my foot, which i must stop doing its only when my foot tires. Also bought some padder boots they are a little clumsy looking but very comfy, its proberly more to do with the fact that i am buying a size 5 and not 4 to accomadate the opp foot.
